A 12 night – 13 day tour from Kathmandu or Bangkok to Bhutan with the main focus being off-road mountain biking on the best scenic trails available. This is mixed with some on-road riding that should not be discounted for the balance and beauty that it adds to the tour.

Itinerary:

 

01 Arrive Kathmandu and be transfered to your hotel
Get bikes ready for a day’s riding around Kathmandu Valley (arriving Saturday or Tuesday) Airport transfer to Hotel

02 A days riding around Kathmandu valley, 30kms, Hotel

03 KTM to Bhutan (Mon / Thursdays)
(With one full day in KTM prior.) On & off- road, 65kms

04 Bike the surrounding hills off-road and make the final climb on road to the Dochula Pass then a great on road descent into Metshina & Wangdi. Off-road & On road 90kms- mostly downhill
Pass 2990m alt.
Stay just out of Metshina at the Zangdho Pelri

05 A day exploring the off road and jeep trails of the Wangdue to Punakha region with a great variety of terrain and sights including Punakha Dzong, monasteries and river environs Jeep trails &
Double track Approx 60kms of mixed off-road and jeep trails climbing into misty hill tops and vivid himalayan views…..with great downhills

06 Punakha to Phobjikha inside the Gangtey Valley
This day is too far and hilly to ride the full distance. As such we have hand picked the best sections for the days biking.
Departing from the hotel we bike into Wangdi & for a further 20 or so Kms before Lunch. After lunch we transfer to the Gangtey turnoff (alt gain 1500m)
For a challenging and magnificient 18kms ascent & descent to the Valley
Option: Ride the last 12kms to the Farm House or bus it up

07 Phobjikha - Phobjikha (Gangtey Valley)
A day’s biking around the valley –off road

Undulating biking at an average altitude of 2800-2900m and no major ascents or descents 6hrs & Approx 40-45 kms Phobjikha Farm House

08 Phobjikha to Bumthang
Departing Phobjikha we have a short gradual climb out and make a short decent to the PeleLa at 3220-m Off road. From the PeleLa we have a long and winding downhill through a huge mixture of Bhutan terrain until we reach Chendebji Chorten.
LUNCH
Following lunch we’ll bike on for another 27kms to the lookout overlooking the Tongsa Dzong & Mangde Chhu and from here board our bus and travel the next 69kms to the Kikila just out of Bumthang.
As time allows we can bike the last 14kms down into the Bumthang Valley or bus it to our private lodge as an option

After savering the delights of the days biking we’ll return to our Lodge for a taste sensation with the home cooked meals.

10 Bumthang to near Wangdue
An early start by bus as we make a return trip to Wangdue over much of the same terrain. This will allow us to accumulate a few massive descents that were missed on our uphill approach into Bumthang on Day4. From the Yotola (3250m) we can bike the 29kms into Tongsa and again onto the Tongsa lookout (1900m) another 7kms, were we’ll assess our progress to ensure we have sufficient time to bus it to the Kyichu Resort near Wangdue.

11 Wangdue to Paro
To Paro by bus that allows a fair portion of the day to explore Paro by bike or foot. We arrive in Paro to savour the tales of the many days of thrilling rides and a final banquet before the distant white-capped himalayan peaks. Optional bike or walk in Paro
Bags packed ready for tomorrows flight to Kathmandu.

12 Paro to Kathmandu.
Early morning shuttle to the airport and arriving around 0930hrs in Nepal for a full day to chill out and enjoy some shopping or optional sightseeing.
Kathmandu accommodation and dinner out
Transfer to airport, Free day
Kathmandu free day to shop, relax or take an optional half day sightseeing of several world heritage sites.

13 Transfer out of Kathmandu to airport transfer.
