Baltoro Gondogoro La Trek |
| |
The opening of the 5450m high Gondogoro La adds a
new dimension to the magnificent K2 Trek, making it
possible to return via the beautiful Hushe Valley. Given
a little luck with weather the view from the Gondogoro
La pass is just incomparable. From no other place on
earth can one see such incredible views of K2 (8611m)
the second highest peak in the words and the most beautiful
high pyramid, Broad Peak (8048m), Gasherbrum I to 6,
Golden Throne (7240m), Chogolisa (7665m), and the entire
upper Baltoro Massif.
This trek requires a good degree of physical fitness,
as the variable weather conditions make the crossing
of pass quite challenging, but more rewarding too. The
trek starts in Askoli as group can reach up to Concordia
being able to see major Baltoro Peaks and, return the
same route in case of extreme snow conditions and unfavorable
weather situations.

Around Nanga Parbat |
| |
This huge mountain is not a single peak but a series
of ridges culminating in an ice crest 8,125 meters high-ranked
ninth highest in the world and second in Pakistan after
K2. The name Nanga Parbat means 'naked mountain', so
called because some of its slopes are so steep that
they are bare of snow or vegetation.
Early disasters on Nanga Parbat gave it the nick-name
Killer Mountain or mangeur d'homme. Twelve climbers
and 18 Sherpa had died there since 1937. The monster
was finally conquered in 1953 (one month after the ascent
of Everest) by a joint Austrian-German expedition; Hermann
Buhl made the final ascent in a strenuous forty one
hour solo ordeal without oxygen.
In the program we make a circle around the mountain
and witness the beauty and culture of the surrounding
areas. While trekking, we cross the maximum height of
5377meters/17,744feet at Mazino, a semi technical pass,
which requires fixed ropes while making the descent
on steep crevassed slopes. We finish our trekking and
camp at Fairy Meadows, the given name of which really
defines its meaning. |

K2 Base Camp Trek |
| |
The most famous trekking route in the world is K2
base camp, a strenuous and demanding but rewarding as
well. Starting from Skardu, the capital of Baltistan,
we cross Shigar, a lush green fertile and fruit laden
valley and drive as far as Askole, the road head and
the last dwelling before entering into the Galen Rowell’s
‘throne room of the mountain gods‘.
Walking on the treacherous but panoramic Baltoro Glacier,
we see several famous and beautiful mountains en route.
Finally we arrive at Concordia, the junction of Baltoro
and Godwin Austin Glaciers with several other tributaries
and a place serving as the base for the four giants
of Karakurums, i.e. Gasherbrum II ( 8035m ), Broad Peak
( 8047m ) and Hidden Peak or Gasherbrum I ( 8068m )
dominated by the king of the mountains, K-2 ( 8611m
). |
